I have escaped hearing about Bill Ricchini until a friend recommended Tonight I Burn Brightly to me. It's the second album from Ricchini after his first one was critically accepted. Bill has a soft voice and works as a nice replacement (or companion) to that of Elliott Smith. His songs tend to be a little sunnier than Smith's (like that's hard) but the arrangements are equally as lush. There are songs that even float into the chamber pop style of someone like Eric Matthews. One of the many catchy songs on Brightly happens to be one called "Eugene Hill". The whole album just seems to brief but this provides the perfect formula for repeat listening. This is one of those albums that won't reach a mass audience but those who Bill does reach will be blessed. It seems like he's a songwriter that will get better over a little more experience. In the meantime we have a nice album called Tonight I Burn Brightly to turn all of our friends onto.
