I really fell for Half-Handed Cloud's last album, Thy Is A Word and Feet Need Lamps. Now with not even a year passing John Ringhofer is back with his follow-up. Halos + Lassos keeps up the quirk that he brought us on his previous album as well as his religious themes (it is on the Christian Asthmatic Kitty label after all). The only problem I had with Halos and Lassos is that with almost 20 songs in half an hour songs whiz by and there is hardly a break between them. Ringhofer takes on an early Guided By Voices mentality in that he comes up with a great melody and records that melody as an entire song. Thankfully John has a much better ear for good production. There is no denying that Half-Handed Cloud is quirky but it is catchy quirk at its finest. I quite enjoyed this album as well. It's hard to get John's constant falsetto out of your head after as little as two listens.
