The Magic Numbers sounded like they would be a good band for me. They were high on the pop sound but still managed to keep an indie feel going. After a few listens I came to the conclusion that they were just a poor man's Stars with an album that is strong on the first half and very weak on the second. Some of the tracks are absolute pop heaven like "Love Me Like You" but then you get to the second half of the album and it all goes downhill. It really ruins the whole package for me. Some of the mediocre songs include "Which Way To Happy" which really had me snoring, "This Love", who's backing female vocals drove me absolutely nuts and then "Try" put the nail in the coffin for me. It's really too bad because the album starts off very strong with the awesome "Mornings Eleven", a perfect bouncy pop song that had me thinking The Magic Numbers were going to save me. I guess I can always hope that they pull together and get a more solid batch of songs together for their sophomore album. I don't really need another set like this.
