The Delays are yet another band that I was a little late and really, I can't remember how I heard about them or came across them. Regardless, I am glad that I was eventually privy to their sunny pop. The Delays hail from Southampton and even though they are British, they don't really fit into any stereotypical British rock, that is unless you think of the La's as stereotypical. I liken Faded Seaside Glamour to an album that Fleetwood Mac might do this day and age. I always hate using the word lush to describe music but it is such a perfect fit for the pop harmonies that The Delays possess. One of the most amazing things about The Delays is Greg Gilbert's amazing falsetto. I could have sworn it was a female singer. It's how they straddle aggression (barely) and such sugary harmonies that makes Faded Seaside Glamour such a treat.
I've had this album for 6 months now and I keep going back to it. Their new album, You See Colours is out soon and I'll be picking that up as well. This band may suffer the same fate as the sadly under-rated Ocean Colour Scene but that just means it's a little secret that we can share with our friends in North America.
