RecommendThe USA is a Monster is an odd mix of classic experimental pop, which has been the duo's forte, and more quiet, acoustic moments that further explore Native American myth ("God Is Red", "George Catlin and The Mandan Chief") and inner politics "Riff Scientist", "Poland"). The stretch pays off. Story-songs and the usual effects-laden guitar textures create a singular world vision, one that has been stretched by new colors acoustic and lyric. Often lumped into the noise scene, and fodder for "purists" who detect too much melody, The USA Is A Monster defy easy labels, and on Wohaw, have challenged their own voices and come up with new myths.
