I didn't have that high of expectations for the debut album from Morningwood but being the guy that I am I decided to give it a once over. And you know, this stuff is alright. Not cutting edge by any means but listenable. For instance, "Easy" is one of the most rocking songs I've heard so far this year but it has elements of Jet and other hard rock bands. But then a track like "Nth Degree" just doesn't make sense on this otherwise hard rocking CD. It's a pop song. Pixies' past producer takes on those duties with Morningwood and does a great job. The sound on the self-titled album is great. And with the album being listenable, it doesn't make it memorable though. The songs end up being quite disposable when it is all said and done. Even after three listens I didn't have a hooky chorus embedded in my head, like every good rock album should. This band totally has potential and I'll keep my eye out for their next release. In the meantime, Morningwood's debut album is quite disposable.

I agree completely with calirockangel. The live performance of this band is incredible; at the show I attended the lead singer basically stripped a girl from the crowd and put her microphone in the girl's bra. Very entertaining, very sexual, but well worth an opening act. And "Nth Degree" is fun as hell to listen to, despite its crazy, almost anime-like popiness.

I fell in love with their first single Jetsetter and that's what lead me to check out the rest of the debut CD by Morningwood. Disregard the poppy Nth Degree and listen to Take off your clothes and youll see the appeal. I saw them live and it was ridiculous. Ive never seen a girl with so much sexual energy and crazy antics on stage&
This CD is not groundbreaking and doesn't say anything that is particularly moving, but if you're looking for rock music with a lot of energy and a crazy chick singer, this CD won't disappoint. I personally loved this album and found that it actually gave some excitement to my commute to work. I agree that Nth degree doesn't really make any sense on the CD but it is rare that a rock CD comes along with as much energy as this that makes you want to jump up and dance...even sitting in the car.
The lyrics aren't particularly amazing but they are so much fun that I can't discredit the CD for that. I can only imagine how great the follow up album will be, but Morningwood's first CD was well worth the $10 I spent on it.
