Minotaur Shock is the project of one UK electronic artist named David Edwards. Maritime is my first exposure to the project and this would be due to the fact that he was picked up by 4AD for this release. His previous label was Melodic and they didn't quite have the breadth of his new home. The music fits in the IDM category quite nicely but the thing with the music on Maritime is that it's much gentler and easier to listen to than the likes of some of his counterparts. Some of the tracks are barely a whisper like "Twosley" but it stays afloat with the different beat David uses. I've heard lots of comparisons to Boards of Canada but Minotaur Shock is much more airy and light. Sure, Edwards was most likely influenced by BOC but he has definitely taken a new direction here. It is nice and given time, it could easily become a favorite. Great background music.
