RecommendThis record is a powerful set of blues and personal tales of struggle. Daughter of Bernice Johnson Reagon, a founder of Sweet Honey in the Rock Reagon's voice rings confident and plaintive like the best Gospel. Most of the record is acoustic; when she stretches out with her band, bassist Fred Cash excels, providing a brooding walking counterpoint to the vocals.
Standout tracks include "Didn't I Tell You", "Trying to Bring Love Home" "Dream" and "Soul N Deep." A strong take of Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel" heralds a new life for that war horse.
