Dark Side of the Copy is a mini-opera that is all about ambient longing, with something darker underneath moving through the pipes. In addition to the electronics, acoustic guitar on "Detroit (Prelude)", mournful bass on "Stuck in the Darkness", and, especially, piano on "Don't Be Jealous" add to a rich mix of sounds. And essentially the song cycle is meant to be life affirming. The "plot" revolves around a guy try to track down a girl he loved in his childhood. And the deep, low groove of the record expresses perfectly that nostalgic, hopeful yet futile longing. For what was a side-project for guys from The Daytona and Red Heart The Ticker, this stands on its own. You may forget it for awhile after a listen, but it will resurface on you sooner or later. Memories do that.
