In the never-ending search for entrants in the Song of The Year sweepstakes, here is another one: "You're Going to Hell For That One." While the Denver kids in Texas Is On Fire can perilously straddle the line the tips into emo, they have enough fire and chops to avoid any of that genre's major sins. The boys crank up their metalcore with exuberance and confidence. Standout tracks "Man's Gotta Get a New Suit", "Face it, Girl, Price Charming Isn't Coming", "Put it on Black" all vary the intense vocals from growl to scream, and the riffs chug along in fits and starts; but there is a freshness and honesty to both. That sets them above other bands that play metalcore because they think it will get them on TRL. Texas is on Fire have carved their own space in an already tired genre and made room for something real.
