For lack of a better word, The Engineers' debut is gentle. Think of a gentler Spiritualized or a more Airy Coldplay and you might have an idea of the sound that Engineers evoke. I can't help but feel I'm floating as I listen to this album. The idea of this album grating on someone is ridiculous. In fact, the more you listen to it the more you feel like you are part of it. This is a band that you couldn't give a shit about what the vocals are all about. Instead you are sucked into the atmospheric qualities of the album. If you haven't grasped it from the review so far, it is the textures and production that make this album a must hear. You have to (slow) dive into the sounds here and take it all in. This is a beautiful debut album that might fit into a shoegazer revival bin but it doesn't matter if it's good, relevant or not.
