Chris Ziter, Sasha Bell and Jeff Baron have created a great follow-up to the lovely Long Goodbye. The Essex Green have been going for the better part of 7 years now and The Cannibal Sea is their best album to date. It is the second album for Merge Records and while The Long Goodbye was a great album, this one just seems to be a little more cohesive. It seems that while there are three songwriters they share the same sort of style. This is something that very few bands with multiple songwriters are capable of. Ballads like "Slope Song" sit nicely right next to more upbeat tracks like "Elsinore". The whole package works instead of the previous album where, in retrospect, had a couple weak moments. I've always loved bands that share lead vocal duties and The Essex Green is no different. The two male vocalists mixed with Sasha's lovely voice make for a fine band and have created another worthwhile album.
