I was first exposed to the Brothers Nourallah through Salim's wonderful album, Polaroid. His album was very gentle but both feet firmly planted in the pop side of things. Nourallah Brothers is very similar to that feel. This is actually a rerelease of the 2001 effort but this one contains a 13 track bonus disc. The album opens with the very gentle "Those Days Are Gone", which really sets the pace for the Nourallah Brothers self-titled album. Rarely do the Brothers rock out. No, they seem content to sooth the listen rather than rock them. Tracks like "I'll Be Around" really epitomize the sound that Salim and Faris craft. Chimes and gentle harpsicord-ish keyboards really set the mood. Elliott Smith fans would probably do good by listening to the more positive Nourallah's. There is a similarity to the two, the latter being a little more whimsical. The second disc contains much more music that would have been released as the second release from the brothers had they not gone on their individual paths. This music is not revolutionary, it's just good gentle pop music.
Apparently Faris has released a few solo albums as well, also on Western Vinyl. Probably worth checking out if you like this album.
