Tenor monster Charles Gayle has always openly chased the spiritual in his music. Here, on solo piano, he finds the divine in a new axe. "Inner Edges" and "Rush to Sunrise" continue the explorations of faith through tone he has mastered on the sax, while "That Memory" and "Delight" channel his own ideas with nods to some historic piano heroes. Gayle has always been hermetic, and the warmth of the piano gives added intimate insight into his vision. It will be interesting to see him live on this tour; he's been known to just slip into gigs with his sax, play and take off. The piano gives him either an easier getaway or a harder one. Which one will he choose?
