All Canadian's know Ashley MacIsaac for his crazy and immature antics. I know many friends who owned Hi How Are You Today and I actually still like it. It's stood up over the test of time. I will admit that I haven't really kept up on Ashley's music lately but when Pride landed on my desk I thought I would give it a shot. There is nary a fiddle to be found on this album. It is a pop/rock album. It starts out fairly strong with "Bitch" and "Just Because" but then goes downhill quite quickly with "Love 'Em". It's just a bunch of goofy lyrics with a driving beat. In fact I think the biggest issue with Pride is the actual lyrics. "You can't always get what you wish for." I think the Rolling Stones said it already in "You Can't Always Get What You Want". "Because You Love Me" sounds like a Headstones throwaway. And "A Man Like You" where Ashley is obviously declaring his love to another man is cheesy as hell. Repetition is the key on the boring closer, "Sick Of Rock 'n' Roll". This one definitely is a waste of time. I don't recommend this album. Pride is nothing to be proud of.
