Narcotic Dreams guitarist James McRea spins webs of drone and minimalist analog. His sound is so fragile, it doesn't so much impose itself on you as encroaches on your personal space. The songs on Shattered seem to have an uncanny ability to fit whatever mood you're in when you listen. This isn't to imply that it is all negative space; there are solid riffs here as well with power and authority. Ambient guitar has been in a heyday for several years now. Not only 804 Noise, but japanimprov, last visible dog, and other labels have been in the thick of celebrating it. McRea is one of the best and Shattered proves it.
