Haunting, Gothic, Moving, Creepy; Carla Bozulich is all that and more. No stranger to emotional catharsis in her work (she's been with Ethyl Meatplow, Geraldine Fibbers, Red-Headed Stranger), here she lets loose with a tale of devastation and loss, scarring in its honesty, frightening in its lack of happy options. The Neil Young ish "Pissing" shares space with southern eccentric chillers"How to Survive being Hit by Lightning", and "Steal away." While Bozulich's dynamic and tested vocals dominate, there is always some form of static in the background. Old records? Sermons? The crazy relative in the next room?
