RecommendSome Action is a New York band that has absorbed a good part of its neighborhood. They play straight ahead snotty NY Dolls-type rock, with none of the preening. They are, in fact, what the Strokes would sound like if The Strokes didn't spend half its energy on celebrity. "Gotta Know" "Drawing Blood" and the title track are the highlights of this five-song EP, which mixes its attitude and power chords with the best of 1977. Well, maybe the best of 1980, but still. New York has given us worse in the last few years, and this is a great, confident start. Who knows? They might get so good no one will listen to them but real fans and none of them will ever have an actress for a girlfriend.
