Rodney DeCroo is a singer songwriter from PA transplanted to Vancouver, where he still longs for home. American legend and myth obsess him, now from afar. He sings songs about people who don't necessarily miss home, but can't let go of the idea that home was supposed to have been more than it was. The epic and the local meet on "Rain Rain", "Black Smoke" and "Standing in the Doorway." "Whiskey" and "Leechburg" attempt to make sense of the lost myths by creating new ones. The legacy of lost hope and the stories of elders become the myths that bring hope to those just starting to struggle. The war he talks about here is Vietnam, filtered through Iraq; DeCroo pays tribute to the soldiers who do the dirty work for the politicians, whom he condemns. These days, we can't hear too much of that. Soldiers are both true patriots and true victims, and DeCroo honors them from both sides.
