Yes, the news you heard about Grandaddy is true. They are done, kaput. But, they left us with one more morsel of ooey gooey goodness in the form of Just Like The Fambly Cat. Sure, you're not going to get anything quite as brilliant as Sophtware Slump or Sumday but that is probably the reason that Jason Lytle has decided to pack up the Grandaddy camp. This farewell album is actually not half bad. If you are new to the Grandaddy sound then this album should turn on just about anyone. If you have heard the previous two full-lengths you might be bored. But there is still some interesting material that all should pay attention to. The brilliance is here on spaced out songs like the ethereal "The Animal World", amongst others. You have to love how little works in the Meow Meow on the lazy "Where I'm Anymore", kind of reminding me slightly of something Luna would have done. Put three Grandaddy album in your catalog, the last three albums including this one. It's worth the price of admission.
Is Jason Lytle done with music? I can't see it. I would be willing to bet that we will see another project from him in a year or so.
