I don't understand why Joe Pernice has never made a much bigger name for himself. He has been singing and writing some of the loveliest songs ever for the past 2 decades and all he does is wallow in the critical acclaim of indie writers such as myself. His pop music may not be the most immediate music that you could get into but if you give it half a chance you will fall in love with instant classics like "Dumb It Down" or "There Goes The Sun". Discover A Lovelier You is the fifth full-length album as the Pernice Brothers and it presents an even more refined Joe as a songwriter. One of the best pop songs on the set happens to be "Snow", probably the poppiest thing that Joe Pernice has ever written. The title track is begging to be the theme to a movie. It's got a great guitar line and smooth and gentle guitar strumming throughout. It makes for a great instrumental. The instrument arrangements on all the songs rival that of Pet Sounds or other classics. And Joe's unmistakable vocal phrasing is something to be heard.
If you run across Discover A Lovelier You you should pick it up. It is a lovely set of classic Pernice Brothers music. I would say one of their finest moments to date.
