Tokyo Police Club is a new band from Toronto and they have taken some pretty interesting influences in order to come up with their sound they are unveiling on A Lesson In Crime. The first track, "Cheer It On" would sound at home on a Strokes album. In fact, that is probably the biggest comparison I can make for Tokyo Police Club. There are times when I'm reminded of the intellectual pop of The Weakerthans as well. See "Citizens of Tomorrow" for that similarity. There are only 7 songs on A Lesson In Crime so I found myself reaching for the play button over and over. The fact is TPC is a solid band even if all of their sounds aren't all unique. And it seems as though Canada is listening to them with the band getting top billing on the Top 50 college chart. I would venture to guess that they would put on a great live show too. This is a great new Canadian band that should do quite well in today's musical landscape.

everyone went so nuts over this EP, but i think their full-length (if you can call it that, haha) is so much better
