Lambchop - The Decline of Country and Western Civilization Pt. 2: The Woodwind Years
Lambchop is another one of those bands where I don't run out and buy their albums on release date but they always end up trickling into my CD collection. The collection of various material that never made it onto a proper Lambchop CD is entitled Decline of Country and Western Civilization it is no exception to my past with the band. Kurt Wagner and his crew have been at it for well over a decade now so it's not surprising to have this much great material floating outside of the realm of their full-length albums. Lovely floating tracks such as "The Book I Haven't Read" and the album opener "My Cliche" are songs that should have never afforded to be lost. Regardless, there are also a few tracks here that we could have lived without (or at least done with a better mastering job). I wouldn't say that The Decline is for every fan or even a newbie. If you are just checking out Lambchop for the first time think more along the lines of their classic How I Quit Smoking. Then move down the road and if you get to this one then you have become a diehard Lambchop fan.
