I, like other Radiohead fans, had reservations about this quickly announced and released solo album from the Radiohead-leader Thom Yorke. But let me be the first to tell you that any Radiohead fan will gobble this up like candy. The Eraser was kept under wraps quite well with pretty much just Thom and Nigel Godrich, producer, knowing about it. There are times when some of the songs resemble a demo but for the most part the production is fine and quite experimental in nature, without getting to crazy. The music is mostly done with samples and such with out any blatant guitars to rock out to. It's good though. Darker tracks like "The Clock" add to the depth of the album. Really, these songs wouldn't sound far removed on a Radiohead album. They are slightly different but not much different than, say, Kid A. "Atoms For Peace" is basic in nature. My favorite is the very emotive "Harrowdown Hill", almost drum n bass with the beats going on in the background, with a groaning organ leading the way. He sounds a little naked but we have to remember that this is a "solo" project. The whole project is very listenable and comes highly recommended.
Thom assures us not to expect a lot of this. He just had this music rumbling around in his head and had to get it out. Radiohead are due for an album in 2007.
