Do you ever kick yourself? No, I mean really get that foot up to your ass really hard so you don't make the same mistake again? We'll I'm doing it for not listening to Post-War sooner. You see, I love M. Ward and have since the day I listened to his End of Amnesia album. He's gotten better and better through the years and hell, even this past year I got the rare opportunity to see him live here in Calgary. Easily my favorite show of the year if he would have played more than 50 minutes. So why haven't I listened to Post-War before now? Considering the album has been sitting on my iPod since before the release date in August (it's now end of November) I've had no excuse other than just forgetting. Well, let me be the last to tell you that this is going to be one of my favorite albums of the year. There is something about M. Ward's lovely arrangements and delivery that give his music a timeless quality. Transistor Radio harkened back to an era where people gathered around their radio in order to listen to the latest single. Now with Post-War there seems to be a bit more of a party going on. While the songs feel slightly rough and sloppy on the edges, the delivery is so amazing. You need to listen to Ward on headphones in order to really get into this and hear the amazing production work. Not an easy task but I think my favorite track on Post-War is "Requiem". A very close second is the sublime "Eyes On The Prize". The lovely cover of Daniel Johnston's "To Go Home" is also worth a mention. Unbelievable, simply unbelievable. I had no idea that he would surpass Transistor Radio
