Bob Holroyd is back with a new album and a new label. The album is called Hollowman and the label is Soundscapemusic, basically his own imprint under the Anything Goze label. The album was recorded primarily in Bob's hometown of Farnham as it seems like he is going for a lot more of a electronic feel as opposed to the world fusion feel that his releases on Six Degrees delivered. You could easily classify this as trip-hop or downtempo. It would fit right next to a Massive Attack or Laika, giving you a break from their moody music but not escaping from the downtempo genre. One of the more upbeat tracks is "Overland" but even there Holroyd doesn't get too aggressive. I love the guitar in this one. Just a simple strumming riff but it works great. I could see tracks like "Autumn Leaves" being utilized as soundtrack music. It is very easy going and yet with the strings throughout make it compelling. Hollowman still has an earthy feel to it but is is much less focused on bringing Eastern music to Western ears than Bob's predecessors. Hollowman is a perfect album for late night background music. Just enough beats going on to be interesting and yet not intrusive.
