This Damnwells is not the same Damnwells I heard on Pmr +1 about 4 years ago. This is a much more polished band and one that has headed more into the pop territory than the No Depression one. Bastards of the Beat wasn't that impressive but I think I could be sold on Air Stereo. Songs like "I Am A Leaver" is a track that you wished Ryan Adams wrote. It is full of hooks and lovely lush vocals. "Shiny Bruise" seems like one of the most honestly penned tracks of this year. Like Alex Dezen bears it all on here. The songs are perfectly arranged. Alex's voice drops back when suited and then brought forward in the mix at the perfect times. There are so many great songs on Air Stereo that it comes very highly recommended. If you think the Wallflowers are roots, then so are the Damnwells. I classify this as great pop that should be all over the place. This is music that would be a great accompaniment to a long road trip.
