Every once and a while a band comes into a listener’s life and begs to be different. They choose not to be like any other band that’s been before them, although they borrow many elements from those previous bands. Garrison happens to be one of those bands. First time I heard A Mile In Cold Water I knew that this band was special. They do incorporate many post-rock elements from bands before them but that ends on borrowing. From there they craft completely original music that ebbs and flows with the listeners emotions. They can be completely angry. They can be completely modest. Be A Criminal is a step in the right direction for this young band. It opens up a whole new side of them. I think this may have a lot to do with producer J Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines) jumping in and doing his thing. If you have been a fan for a while you will be conscious of their maturation even between their last release and this full-length. This is a band that I would love to see live.
