Ruins drummer/vocalist Tatsuya Yoshida channels both Queen and Frank Zappa, with a slowed down nod to his regular band, in creating a frenetic prog-fest that will please both fists pumpers and beard-scratchers. The operatic “Sllina Vezom” and “Grembo Zavia” ages well beside the metal-chanting of “Brahggo” and “Rissenddo Rraimb,” which should make both Ruins and Satriani fans hump walls. Guitarist Jin Hirada works magic with odd time signatures and insanely fast chord changes. And as usual, Yoshida plays like four drummers at Chipmunks’ speed. Gorgeous vocalist Aki Kubota manages to be both majestic and harrowing. This is the second Koenjihyakkei record, and the better of the two. Viva Keonji May cause seizures and abrupt moments of bliss.
