Ima Robot - Monument To The Masses
Ima Robot is a strange name for this Hollywood based band. The group received quite a bit of praise over their debut self-titled album and now the boys are ready to release another album full of pop gems. You imagine a very computerized sound with their name but instead you get some of the best pop to come out in a long time. I could imagine songs like "Pouring Pain" being played in the 1980s when pop was king. In reality there is nothing retro about the band, well as much retro as pop music can possibly take on. The first single off of their sophomore album is a little more electro. It's called "Creeps Me Out", which is a true story about one of Alex Ebert's (band leader) groupie/stalker girlfriends. It's pretty damn catchy. There are times when Ima Robot has that electro-pop sound that their name was most likely coined after but for the most part, music on Monument is just good pop music. One of the catchiest tracks on Monument is "Lovers in Captivity". I think the band should see a lot more fans grab on with Masses.
