Caetano Veloso along with Gilberto Gil could arguably be the biggest influence for the influx of Brazilian music that is making it's way to North American markets. The self-titled second album for Veloso, affectionately known as "The White Album", is still considered a cornerstone of the beautiful Tropicalia sound. It is a wonder too considering Veloso did this album when he was in prison during the infamous Brazilian dictatorship of the time. If your idea of this era of Brazilian music and Tropicalia is "The Girl From Impanema" then you need to hear this album. There is so many catchy songs on this set that any fan of good pop music would eat it up. There are many song in English, including the amazing "Lost In Paradise". The appeal of the music on the White Album is far reaching. Even today, almost 40 years since it was recorded, it sounds youthful and fresh. This is a must for any world pop collection.
