RecommendInsomniac Doze is Envy’s fifth release since 1998, and this young Japanese thrash band is one that keeps wringing as much emotion out of the genre as they can. With droning, sweeping interludes in the middle of such brutal ravers as “Shield of Selflessness” and “further Ahead of the Warp”, and majestic psych thrash with “ ”Scene” and “The Unknown Glow”, Envy approach the profound more often than expected. Like Paik or Kinsky, the depths that grow organically from the rhythm guitar and off of the initial riffs are overwhelming. A powerful and emotional release that ought to win the band more North American fans as it tours to support this.
