Cheeky boys, ripping of the title of a classic album of Joy Division. You will quickly realize that that is the only similarity between Betrayed and Joy Division. Betrayed is a fairly new band but from what I hear they have already called it quits. In 2005 they released their debut EP on the straight edge label Bridge 9 and within no time they had a deal with Equal Vision. They claim Aram Arslanian from Champion as their guitarist so just from that you know that Betrayed is a straight edge punk band. With as little as one listen you can hear the passion in this band. It reminds me a lot of older hardcore bands, the one's that really believed in what they were doing. Bane, Sick Of It All, that sort of thing. Just throw on the album and when "Think Twice" smashes your ears you will know you are in for a loud fucking ride. On the title track there is actually some pretty cool guitar harmonies going on. Harmonies and hardcore? Yeah, it can be done and still maintain its aggressiveness. You get some more of those awesome riffs on "Bring It To Life". Substance is a killer hardcore album. Doesn't matter if you are "straight edge" or not, if you are a hardcore fan then you need to check out Substance.
