For those people who never really got into what Toby Marks (aka Banco De Gaia) was doing with his world/electronic fusions throughout the years, you need to sit down and listen to where the guy came from and where he is at today on 10 Years. This compilation does an amazing job of documenting the artist’s fusion music. For the last couple of albums, Toby has had great company on the Six Degrees world fusion label, which is a perfect fit for Banco De Gaia. Make no mistake though; Banco de Gaia is no DJ act. Toby Marks considers himself a musician going through the composition stages in order to make his songs separate entities from one another. There really isn’t one area that Toby concentrates on either. He does focus on Eastern influences but he doesn’t just remain in that mind frame. A lot of this material has been out of print for a while after legal battles with various labels. So 10 Years provides quite a complete look at Banco de Gaia’s past and present. Who knows where Toby will go in the future. Some would say that this is the future.
