This is one of those compilations I just had to listen to. You don't have to really be into punk in order to enjoy this, provided you are at least 30 years old right now. 15 of todays up-and-coming as well as some fairly established punk bands decided to take on some punk classics. Along the vein of Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, bands such as Halifax, So They Say, Emery, and Sugarcult take on some pretty sacred material. Some of these songs are pretty near and dear to a lot of older music fans so for a band like Sugarcult to take on "I Melt With You" and blaze with it is something special. I think out of all of these great tracks a band called Early November does "Power Of Love" and reworks almost beyond recognition. They turn it into a beautiful acoustic song. Gatsbys American Dream's rendition of "Just Like Heaven" is worth a mention as well. There isn't really a bad moment on Punk Goes 80's (well, Brazil's version of "Wrapped Around Your Finger" is WAY to close to the original. Switch it up dudes. Make it your own). So They Say takes on Rod Stewart's "Forever Young" (my grad song) and rock pretty hard with it. This album is just what it sounds like, a bunch of today's punk bands playing a bunch of songs that were written before they were born. Comical in nature but the delivery is there. Worth a glance.
