Again, another album that was highly recommended by a couple of friends proves to be a fine addition into my collection. The Hives are not a new band; in fact they have been rocking their Swedish shores since 1993. They are just starting to make a splash on our shores and it might have something to do with their luminaries, The (International) Noise Conspiracy (contains ex-Refused members), making it big here. Now that The Hives are gaining some recognition we need to revisit their most recent (and best) album, Vini Vidi Vicious. The cover has the five members all dressed up in black suits with white shoes and shirts, looking like they belong back in the 70’s mod scene along with the Jam and Madness. Don’t let their deceiving costumes catch you by surprise because they kick ass. Their sound is a relentless mix of punk and garage rock that fires on all cylinders. With bands like T(I)NC and The White Stripes ripping up the college charts it should be an easy in for a band with as much heart and talent as The Hives to walk right in. Be on the lookout for a new album shortly.
