This is one sweet album that I almost missed out on. Ikara Colt is a group of musicians who met at Art College in London and formed the first incarnation of the band in 1999. The recorded their debut single for Fantastic Plastic and John Peel caught wind of it (as he is known to do) and later on recorded this album. Pretty much every British magazine was praising their music and live shows. Now we get a chance to sample what the UK has to offer in the way of post-rock music. Ikara Colt has literally blown me away with how tight they are. Sure, they work on styles that have been around since the likes of Jawbox but Chat and Business is a unique and original album that stands out on its own. The vocalist Paul Resende has a way about presenting his vocals that is similar to that of the Strokes but in a more urgent way. Ikara Colt is a band that will kick you where you need kicking. I’m not sure what I was expecting from this British punk outfit but I have been pleasantly surprised.
