Electro-acoustic instrumentals that are on the brooding side, typical of the great finds that Russian label Monochrome Vision seems to excel at. This is a collaboration between Russian-American Dmitry Gelfand (under the moniker Portablepalace) and Russian Andrey Savitsky (http), who are helped along by Kirill Domnich. The mood of this set is typical for the releases on the label, in that it features three longish tracks with varying takes on sound. The first is rather minimal, the second approaches Noise, and the final track is industrial and hermetic, and the most eerie of the lot. There are more ideas here than in most ambient recordings, and several of them get deep under your skin. In many ways, the best record of its kind I’ve heard all year; this is a great label to check out if you haven’t yet.
