Blue 6 has been slagged for making an entire album of the same song. While not quite true, their sound isn’t completely dynamic. Jay Denes is the one they call Blue 6 and is producer and creater of this music. Beautiful Tomorrow is filled with the sultry jazz stylings of downtempo music that you would expect from the likes of the Thievery Corporation. Blue 6 was formerly recording for San Francisco’s deep house label, Naked Music and recently they have been picked up distribution by powerhouse, Astralwerks. Denes relies a lot on female vocalists to make his music come to life. I read somewhere that Blue 6 was only good for a couple of songs on a compilation. My thinking is that if you are looking for downtempo grooves with female vocalists, Beautiful Tomorrow is a great route to go. The tracks are different enough that you can feel transitions from one to the next. While it’s not a groundbreaking album, it is a great one for putting on for an evening of visiting or background music while working.
