One of the biggest surprises last year was the rumored break-up of Fugazi and even more surprising was Ian MacKaye's new project with Amy Farina, The Evens. Their self-titled was completely unexpected and showcased a great new sound with Ian's Baritone guitar. They also have a nice mix of male/female vocals with Ian and Amy. Get Evens isn't much of a departure to that of their debut. The songs seem almost a little more upbeat. Songs like "Everybody Knows" where Ian gets all crazy on the guitar shows the duo having fun. They do a nice job on harmonies as well. Listen to "Cache Is Empty" for proof, probably one of the slower tracks but still fun. I still kind of picture the Evens as an acoustic Fugazi without the bombast. Whether you enter with their debut or Get Evens, you will see that this is a group that has strong songwriting skills. You have to when the songs are this bare. While I don't think the Evens will quite have the appeal that a duo like the White Stripes, I still think that they do have enough charisma to get a fairly big following. I'd like to see The Evens in a live setting.
