Blue October is good stuf, I remember a friend from San Marcos saying they used to see em in 30 person dive pub's, and something about that romanticizes how far they've come. Alas, I must agree this album wreaks in redundantly repetitive abilities.

This album just doesn't compare to those that came before it. Thanks to a friend I really fell in love with this band, and it was because of a few songs found on this album. But after going back through Blue October's catalog, you realize this album borderlines on selling out...the pop influence that was apparent in previous records seems to win out over the attention to detail and intricate melody that made older albums very rich and full of life. Still, songs like "Congratulations", "18th Floor Balcony" and "She's My Ride Home" are excellent examples of radio-friendly alt-rock that still contains a bit of an edge despite the touchy-feely lyrics. This band has always shined through the vocals and lyrics of Justin Furstenfeld most of all, but on "Foiled" all of what made them underground darlings seems left in the underground, overshadowed by a new-found desire to make bigger splashes. The essence of the band remains, but they should consider keeping things more honest.

EverdarkAngel summed it up nicely. I was going to do an editorial review on Blue October but shied away. I think Foiled has a too many songs that sound the same. They need to diversify more. They've got a good sound but it needs to broaden. I really like the vocalist. I kept 3 songs on my iPod. The rest were too much the same.
