Blue States is just another pseudonym for the UK knob twiddler Andy Dragazis. He made an album that relies heavily on atmosphere in the way of cocktail lounges. Blue States is a gently stated project who doesn’t aim to offend anyone, only provide the soundtrack for meeting with friends over a couple bevies. Nothing Changes Under The Sun evokes a happy and contented feeling throughout the entire journey. The album would easily be compared to French atmospheric band, Air. Andy uses samplers on occasion with many rewards. The uses are more often than not, very subtle and understated as are the string sections heard throughout the album. There are times when you feel swept off to another faraway land on a magic carpet only to be brought safely home at the end of the day to be tucked in bed. This is an album that may take a few listens to realize the highlights as they are so subtle and understated but Blue States have created a great downtempo and yet very happy mix of songs.
