Some would find the vocals to be an interesting combination of Cradle of Filth and, as my friends say, Christina Aguilera. I disagree with that reference entirely, but to each their own. Two Johns for vocalists, one who screams at the top of his lungs and the other who serenades us, with vocals that can have slight tinge of annoyance but at other times can sound very consistent.
Not only are the vocals across the board, but so is the music. Winding and writhing guitars take the music everywhere and swoon in and out of the highs of the vocals. Bass rhythms, in songs like "Burning Down the Nicotine Armoire," show the competency grasped in the fingers of the instrumentalists.
Though the music is good and has staying power, the vocals are in need of improvement. They aren't horrible and they aren't groundbreakingly fantastic either. They have a sort of decency where you know their is potential and it isn't being reached. Which is a good cliffhanger...
