I usually try to buy at least one Christmas album every year. If you are like me then this year make it Aimee Mann's One More Drifter In The Snow. This album is a somber affair but there is a heartfelt sentiment in Aimee's voice that makes this a special Christmas album. Drifter kicks off with the somber "Whatever Happened To Christmas" and then moves into slightly brighter territory with the "Christmas Song". One of the greatest moments on here is Aimee's version of "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch". It's a very clever version of a song that isn't done very often. She also does a bang-up job on "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". It's tracks like this and the slightly spooky version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", done in Aimee's own arrangements, that make Christmas albums so interesting.

Aimee states that she wanted to create an album that "captures the spooky beauty and mystery that Christmas is". I think she has delivered just that. This is a lovely album that you can come back to year after year.
