Let’s get one thing straight: Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are in fact just a novelty act. With that being said, the world needs novelty such as this. There is a market for old classic songs done ala punk style and the boys from Fat Wreck know this. This is the Gimmes third album of covers and their first on 60’s music. The album kicks off with the so called title track, Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind� which you can hear some really cool punk harmonies on. But wait, there’s more. A bit of a disappointment is the Beach Boys “Sloop John B� which I felt they could have gone nuts with the harmonies here. “Wild World� is one of the highlights as well as the blistering “Who put the Bomp� which they don’t slow down at all for. One of the more brilliant songs that they do is “Elenor� in which the Gimmes steal the riffs straight from “London Calling� and incorporate the “Elenor� lyrics into it. Some other highlights include “My Boyfriends Back�, “I Only Want To Be With You�, and Del Shannon’s “Runaway�. 13 covers in under 30 minutes. The guys seem a little tired of this whole schtick but they can still pull it off. Of course this will be a hit at your next house punk party.
