underOATH is back with a vengence, this time this christian post-hardcore band is graced with the presence of the new leadman Spencer Chamberlain. They're Only Chasing Safety, released by Tooth & Nail was and is the beginning of underOATH's new style. I like the way they take the screaming down a bit, it seems they also drastically improved the instrumentals. The album starts with Young & Aspiring. A very good "pump-up" kind of song, it can really get you going. The synthesizer in the background in some parts is also a great edition to this song. Next on the list is Reinventing Your Exit, their first single of the album. It has a very good drum beat in the intro, and overall its a really catchy song sure to be stuck in your head at school or work. One of my album favorites is Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Will Escape. I guess you can call it their "slow song" of the album. For a while the only two instuments used are some synth and an acoustic guitar. Aaron Marsh of Copeland is also featured in this tune. Towards the end they wrap it up and bring in the full band. It's an amazing track. Featured on the Deluxe Re-Release Edition of this album, are four bonus tracks two of which are sort of remixes to songs on the album, The 80's Song & Smic Tague. The other two are original unreleased tracks. They're also very good tracks, I Got 10 Friends And A Crobar That Says You Aint Gonna Do Jack and You're So Intricate. All in all this album is an excellent find.

An amazing album that i thought could not be equalled or surpassed. For the time it was out. Spencer Chamberlain's screaming does leave room for improvement and maturing, but even though the vocals are a little weak, it goes perfectly with the music. The chord progression and drum lines bring in a hard rock feel which will make you listen closer. Aaron[drummer] has awesome lyrics to go along with his amazing voice. And with all of this being pulled in together, makes this an amazing album. The re-release of this album was great, along with the seemingly demo versions of a few of their hit songs. Forget everything you know about underOath and their release of 'The Changing of Times' before listening to this. This release is great, and even though its a large genre jump from 'The Changing of Times' it's still a good album that deserves a chance.
