Maju - Maju-4
Maju ("may-you") is Japanese for cocoon, which is the perfect description for the sound that Maju create on this album. The sounds are primarily electronic but still have an extremely organic feel to them. The music is ambient electronica and is able to be played while doing copious amounts of work, I found. It seemed like Maju was triggering the sections of the brain that increased attention and focus. I'm not sure if this is just a side effect or whether there is science involved with it. While I wouldn't go as far as calling Maju-4 required listening, it is interesting and should appeal to people who like ambient recordings. If you make it past the first track, "Rst02" (all the songs are cryptically named), then you should have no trouble getting through the rest of the 1 hour disc. Don't put this album on to win over friends, they will look at you like you're a freak. It is meant for late-night headphone listening.
