RecommendBargrooves is a series of compilations that focus on the dance culture. The thing with Citrus, I found, is that it sounds very familiar and yet I've never heard of any of these artists. It is primarily upbeat house music with a bit of worldly flavor but there is nothing really new added to the mix. This is good and bad. It's good because it does sound familiar and makes it an easily listen and a good soundtrack to get work done. It's also bad because it doesn't venture into any new territory. I know that this isn't the job of a compilation but when a music fan such as myself doesn't keep the pulse on electronic music the way he would like to, he should be presented with the new sound on a new compilation. I found the second disc to be much superior to the first. It seemed to hold together a little more and grabbed my attention on more occasions. The first disc was mixed by Bargrooves creator Ben Sowton, but the second disc was done by Matthias Heilbronn and it just feels superior. Regardless, if you are a house fan and are hankering for another compilation to get you through another club-less night then check out Bargrooves Citrus. Should get you by.

I usually find the Bargrooves collections to be underwhelming; it seems as though they're aimed at clubbers and loungers who want nothing more than a familiar beat in the background. Every now and then a song will surprise you on these compilations, but for the most part they tend to be filler; filler with a good beat perhaps, but filler nonetheless.
