I've enjoyed Parlour's output thus far but for what it's worth, I haven't slobbered all over their output. For instance, I've had Hives Fives sitting in my review pile for well over a year. There was no way I was going to give it out for review. I wanted to keep it for myself after listening to their impressive Googler album. This EP is really only 4 songs, not like one would assume from the Hives Fives title. The four songs are very impressive though. Tim Furnish decided to ditch the laptops for this EP making instrumentation stand out. What we get is an even more Tortoise like sound. Songs swirl but never get boring, as is often the case with instrumentals. The title track is bright and sunny. "Timorme" is a little darker and quieter but impressive after it gets moving a little more. Parlour continues to tread down the instrumental post-rock path, and is even more impressive when Tim brings in more and more instruments into the fold. And as bands like this add more jazz elements to their music there is no reason why post-rock won't live on forever. I still think that Parlour music would make for a great soundtrack.
