You don't really know what to expect any more when labels and promo companies start comparing a new and upcoming artist to a bunch of established artists. 9 times out of 10 they are completely full of shit. Alice Smith has been compared to Norah Jones, which doesn't do a lot for me even though I do have tremendous respect for her. Well, Alice is so much more than Norah. She has elements of Norah's jazzy voice but Smith goes as far as implementing Joss Stone's smooth style with Macy Gray's gritty R&B voice. So in essence, she is a soul singer but she brings a lot of pop elements to the table setting her apart from her peers. For instance, "Know That I" has a classic pop feel to it. If you are interested in the soul side of things or have great respect for female vocalists who manage to stand out, you need to check out Alice Smith. I predict a big career for Smith with For Lovers, Dreamers, and Me just being the first of many chapters. She just has a timeless quality to her.
